Our Leather
We work with three types of premium leather, each chosen for its character, durability, and how it ages. All of our leather is genuine, full-grain cowhide β the highest grade, taken from the top layer of the hide where the natural grain is densest.
Vegetable-Tanned Leather
Our primary material. Vegetable-tanned leather is processed using natural tannins from tree bark, leaves, and other plant sources β a method that's been used for centuries. It's the most natural, most environmentally conscious tanning method, and it produces leather that:
- Develops the richest, most individual patina over time
- Ages beautifully β darkening and softening with daily use
- Carries the subtle scent of natural leather
- Shows natural grain markings and variations unique to each hide
- Takes laser engraving exceptionally well, producing a clean, lasting mark
Crazy Horse Leather
Crazy horse leather (also called pull-up leather) is a waxed, oiled leather with a distinctive distressed character. When bent, stretched, or scratched, the oils shift to create lighter highlights β giving it a lived-in look from day one. It's exceptionally durable, develops a rugged patina quickly, and is a favorite for wallets, bags, and products that see heavy daily handling.
Natural Characteristics
Because we use minimally-processed, full-grain leather, every piece has unique natural features:
- Grain variation β no two hides are identical, and no two products will look exactly the same
- Subtle color differences between batches β natural tanning produces organic, not industrial, color consistency
- Small natural marks, scars, or insect bites β these are evidence of a real animal hide, not a synthetic reproduction
These aren't imperfections. They're the signature of genuine leather, and they're what make your product uniquely yours.
Laser Engraving
We use a precision UV laser to engrave your name, initials, message, or design directly into the leather. Unlike printing or embossing, laser engraving creates a permanent mark that won't fade, peel, or wear off. Engraving results vary subtly depending on the leather type and color β vegetable-tanned leather takes a clean, precise mark; crazy horse leather shows a softer, more organic effect.
Care
- Keep away from prolonged moisture, oils, and harsh cleaners
- Wipe clean with a soft, dry cloth when needed
- Let the leather develop its patina naturally β conditioners and treatments are generally not necessary for the first few years
- If the leather gets wet, pat dry with a cloth and let it air-dry at room temperature β never use direct heat
- Embrace the changes β scratches, darkening, and softening are how your leather tells its story
